Angel the Redactor? Hardly.

I am not on my soapbox about the redactors throwing out great stories. I was pondering why there are unicorns in the Bible. There are none now, and there is no fossil evidence. Then I thought about the whale in the Bible. This led me to the narwhale. This all led me to throw caution into the wind and begin a story about both animals in the Bible. Hopefully no one will take this seriously and burn me at the stake. I was just thinking about how I would fit the extinction of the unicorn into the Bible if I were the redactor. Since the unicorn is mentioned after the story of the flood there would have to be other redactions as well, but this is how I would begin.

(NOTE AGAIN--THIS IS JUST A FANTASTICAL VOYAGE INTO MY THOUGHTS ABOUT UNICORNS, ENOCH, REDACTORS AND THE BIBLE STORY OF THE FLOOD. THIS IS NO WAY MEANT TO UPSET ANYONE'S RELIGIOUS IDEALS OR TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. IF JUST PONDERING THE ABOVE PARAGRAPH UPSETS YOU TURN BACK NOW. TURN YOUR COMPUTER OFF IF YOU MUST, BUT DO NOT READ ON.)

Also, please note these were quickly jotted down thoughts while procrastinating as long as possible to give my brain a break from the study of Calculus, and is not intended to be looked at as a completed and polished story.

                                             The Redaction of the Unicorn

The unicorn was God’s perfect creation. Strong, exquisite, powerful and unrivaled in beauty it became a symbol of the ideal. Men and women worked to achieve even a distant and faded replica of the unicorn’s loveliness for themselves. The people were an impressive and beautiful race who lived peaceably and worshiped God. That is, until the Angels arrived.

Enchanted by the beauty of the human females, entranced by their faith in God and the strength and beauty they had gained through their reverence and imitation of the unicorn the Angels took them as wives. They taught their brides and children, the Nephilim, the ways of the gods. The angels’ knowledge of magic, herbs, metals and warfare  were forbidden to man by God. Somehow, their transgressions went unnoticed for a time during which the Nephilim thrived.

The Nephilim were giants, and the world could not hold them.  Earth could not provide enough resources for them, and men were weak in their eyes. Trouble began as the larger, stronger giants increased they easily took resources from the humans. They were a bloodthirsty breed who turned to cannibalism and violence. They rejected the God of the humans; deciding that anyone the weak humans would worship would in comparison to their strength be pathetic. If this god ever decided to appear they planned to simply slaughter him. As the resources became scarce and the violence escalated and the lands became barren, the very Earth itself cried out to God for help.

God heard the cry of the Earth and of his faithful, what few were left, and He was angered by the betrayal of the Angels and the actions of the giants. He called upon his servant Enoch to help carry out his mighty retributive strike. Enoch, the most faithful man to ever have lived had been chosen to walk with God. The splendor and vigor of Enoch’s faith had saved his own life. Instead of dying as the other men had at the end of their lifespan, God chose to spare him and instead allowed Enoch to walk with Him. Enoch alone among men had witnessed with his own eyes God and heaven; a reaffirmation and reward of his immense faith. When God called to him and asked him to leave him to go speak with Noah, Enoch's own grandson, he humbly accepted the task.

Noah and his family were the only faithful left on Earth; Enoch found them hiding in a cave. He showed Noah what must be done to cleanse the world of the sins of angels and men. He gave Noah the plans that would allow him, his family, and the animals of the Earth to survive the colossal flood God would soon send. Those on the ark would be the only ones who would survive the purification of the planet.

The day of the rains arrived; Noah and his family boarded the ark and waited. Sent by God, the animals journeyed two by two from all the corners of the Earth to join Noah on his journey and to insure their salvation. As the last animals boarded the ship, they all realized the unicorns were not among them. Noah called to God and to Enoch to help them find the unicorns. As Noah, Shem, Ham and Japheth ran to exit the ark, the Lord sealed the door. In the thunder they heard God’s voice command them to stay with the others.

It is written that the flood waters receded and life on Earth began again. However, what was lost was the story of the surviving unicorns. They did not perish in the flood, not one of them. God transformed the unicorns into narwhales. They are not as beautiful to humans as they were in their terrestrial form. This is good in the eyes of God; His magnificent unicorns live on and humans are protected from their beauty. Never again will people emulate the unicorn and bring the undesired attention from celestials.

                                                 The End

That is my redaction, of course if you are not happy with it, I suggest redacting it. Just please do not burn me at the stake for blasphemy, I have studied too hard to die just before finals.
